Year Five

Miss Horkan

Welcome to Year Five

This term, we will be heading back in time and studying the Viking and Anglo Saxon struggle for the kingdom of England. To help us explore this topic, we will be reading Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Beowulf’ and we will be designing and making an Anglo Saxon house!

In September, we are celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday. Our class novel is The BFG.

We will be taking swimming lessons at Heworth Leisure Centre. This should be lots of fun and a great opportunity to become excellent swimmers by the end of Year 5! Please remember swimming kits every Wednesday. We will also be having PE lessons in school every Tuesday so please have your full school PE kit in class.

Homework and Spellings will be sent out every week. Children are encouraged to read their reading book every night at home. Please continue to ask them questions about what they are reading to help with their understanding. Tips on this can be found on the inside front cover of your child’s reading record.

Keep using MyMaths to keep your skills sharp!

If you would like any extra work or have any other queries, do not hesitate to contact the school office and make an appointment.

Keep checking here for lots of pictures about what we get up to this year!
