Year FourMrs Martin
Welcome to Year Four
This term we will be learning about the Victorians and how Queen Victoria changed Britain during her reign. We will be finding out things for ourselves and using them to develop our understanding.
In English we will be reading the book ‘Street Child’ and finding out what it was like for a child during the Victorian times. We will be using examples from the book to support our writing and developing our skills on the way.
We will be developing our handwriting skills in the hope that we will be given a pen licence. Spellings will be handed out on a Monday and tested on a Friday.
Reading is an important skill and we ask that you continue to read with your child on a daily basis. This doesn’t have to be a school reading book, it can be anything that interests the children. They are reminded that they need to bring their books in for checking and changing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In maths we will be consolidating our knowledge from year 3 and developing it further so that we are able to apply it to word problems – some will be brain busters! We will also be focusing on times tables and developing our knowledge and aiming to be confident in all our tables by the end of the year. Please help your child at home by regularly reciting the tables from the 2s to 12s. Times tables will be tested on a Friday. This could be a specific set or a randomly mixed test, so keep learning them at home.
Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. If there are any questions about homework remember to send it back and I will discuss it with the children and explain how to complete it.
We will be having PE on Tuesdays and Friday – our PE kit is black shorts, a white t-shirt and black sandshoes.
Keep checking our page for updates on the work we have been doing as we will be having fun throughout the year as well as working hard!!
