Year Three

Miss Owens

Welcome to Year 3!

We are so excited to now be part of the Juniors! Moving from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 won’t be easy but with lots of hard work and fun along the way, we’re up for the challenge!

Our topic this term is the Stone Age. In English, we will be reading ‘Stig of the Dump’, writing our own stories and exploring non-fiction genres, such as leaflets and instructions.

Throughout the year, we will be practicing our handwriting and aiming to earn our pen licence.

New spellings will be handed out weekly for our spelling test on a Friday.

Children are encouraged to read their reading book every night at home. Please continue to ask questions about what they are reading to help with their understanding- tips on this can be found on the inside front cover of your child’s reading record.

In Maths, we will be building upon what we have learned in Year 2, using MyMaths to develop our Mathematical skills outside of lessons. Number facts will be sent out weekly and will be tested in our mental maths test every Friday.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday to be returned the following Wednesday.

Our PE days this term are a Tuesday and Thursday.

We have settled into Year 3 really well. Oswald, our class bear, had a fabulous weekend with Sophie (he thinks he is a brilliant ballerina!). He is looking forward to lots of fun and adventures with the other children in Year 3 this year!

Keep checking here for what we are getting up to this year!
