Year One

Mrs Hedley

Welcome to Year One

Moving to Year 1 from Reception is a big transition but we hope to make it as easy as possible for all of our children.

In English we will be looking at both stories and non-fiction genres, such as writing lists and writing recounts. The weekly spelling tests will be focussed around our phonics and the sound that we are learning in class. Throughout the year we will be working on improving our handwriting.

In maths we will be building on what has been learnt in Reception to develop our adding and subtracting skills, as well as looking at shape and space, money  and time.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday to be returned by the following Wednesday.

Spelling and number facts will be sent home on a Friday and tests will be the following Thursday.

The children have settled well into Year 1 and are ready and eager to work and we are looking forward to the exciting year ahead!
